The Better Business Bureau is warning senior citizens to be aware of an emerging telephone scam that is preying on grandparents nationwide. The BBB has recently received reports about grandparents from California to New Hampshire who thought they were aiding their grandchildren by providing money for an emergency situation but were in fact giving thousands of dollars to Canadian con artists.

Rising healthcare costs are forcing small business owners to decide whether or not they can afford to provide health coverage for their employees. Some employers are choosing to contribute to Health Savings Accounts (HSA) for employees as an alternative to paying for health insurance, and the Better Business Bureau is providing guidance for small business owners on whether HSAs could be a viable option for their company.

With the cost of healthcare continuing to climb and with consumers now feeling the budget pinch from all sides, some are looking into discount medical cards as a way to save money and ease cost burdens. Discount medical cards may seem like an attractive option for saving money, but the Better Business Bureau is advising consumers to do their research and ask the right questions before signing up or they could get ripped off at a time when they can least afford it.

While American International Group (AIG) did not actually go out of business, thanks to an $85 billion loan from the Federal Reserve, the prospect did raise fears in the minds of consumers: What if my insurance company goes under? The Better Business Bureau is offering answers to consumers’ frequently asked questions on what will happen if their insurance company shuts its doors.

In light of the current downward trend of the U.S. economy, the National Retail Federation estimates that holiday retail spending will increase by a paltry 2.2 percent, the slowest rate of growth in the last six years. As a result, companies are expected to hire fewer seasonal employees and, unfortunately, this means fewer jobs for cash-strapped consumers looking to supplement their holiday spending money. The Better Business Bureau recommends that job hunters looking for seasonal employment start their search now, and is offering advice for landing a job for the holidays.
